"It's Our Culture"

Akron, Ohio - I got a call this morning that filled me with pride. It was from Brian Colleran, the owner and founder of our company, Foundations Health Solutions. He said, "Bob, today's our last day at Canal Pointe and I'd like to do something for the staff to thank them for their dedication to our residents and our company over the years."
Canal Pointe is a facility in Akron that we have operated for years. Today was our last day at this facility as we were transitioning it to a new owner. The decision is never easy, but nevertheless, it is a reality.
Brian went on and said, "I want to give a $500 bonus to each employee at the facility to thank them." I said, "Are you serious?" He responded, "Yes, it's our Culture - make it happen." So, I got off the phone and called Dan Parker, our VP of Corporate Affairs, told him what Brian said, and Dan responded, "I'll take care of it."
It was a moment of incredible pride. As I sat back and thought of what just happened, I was proud to work for a man like that. How many other owners, on their way out the door, would make a gesture like that? We are in an industry that gets a lot of bad press it's nice to know that we work for a company that "Culture of Care" isn't just a nice tag line or motto. That we live it out and our owner is passionate about it.
I am so lucky to have a mentor and a friend by the name of Brian Colleran. He has built the largest nursing home company in Ohio and in those rare times come when we transition out of a facility, he goes above and beyond to show appreciation to our biggest asset as a company - our people.
Thank you, Brian, for the example you set for us all. Your actions have definitely done this for me and countless others. Thank you for reminding us every day to care for our people and to do the right thing. Thank you for living our Culture of Care.
